Last year I worked in an office (for someone else) for the first time in a very long time. When the holiday week rolled around, I was caught off guard by the gifts that were on my desk each morning. “ Is this a thing we are doing?” I thought. Do I need to go out and buy a gift for each person in this office?

This is not going to be one of those posts that tells you to fight the consumerism of the season and refuse to give gifts. I LOVE giving gifts as much as I love receiving them. And I believe that the posts which admonish us to avoid the traps of the season and not go into debt during this time of year are just as harmful to our psyche as the posts that encourage us to stock up and spend it all for all the things.

For me, the key is to spend during the holidays using my values - just as I do the rest of the year. And so, in this situation, I stopped and thought about what I wanted to give this office full of women that I did not share deep personal connections with. What could I give them that would be meaningful to them and also in line with who I am as a person? I landed on Truth Bombs from Danielle LaPorte.

I visited each person at their desk and explained that I had a deck of cards that contain messages for them for their new year. I fanned the cards out and let them pick the one they were drawn to. Sometimes they read it out loud and we shared the moment together. Sometimes they read them silently and had a look of acknowledgement on their face and then thanked me for the thoughtfulness. And a few of them hung them up in their office as a reminder throughout the year.

I also use the truth bomb decks as cards on the gifts I do give out. It’s super easy to punch a hole in the corner, pull a piece of string through and attach them to a gift. If you are feeling super woo-woo, you can create a quiet space for yourself, light a candle and ask for guidance to receive messages for your friends or family for the upcoming year. You can also just flip through them and look for messages that you feel called to share with someone!

I’ve been giving truth bombs out for about two years. When I host an event or party, I pass around the deck at the end. When we do vision boarding, I always bring some to contribute. And just about any time I give someone a gift, I include a little truthbomb inspiration in the bag!

The other big draw on this site is the Planners. Danielle is the author of the “Desire Map” program which I reference in my post on getting clear on your business values. Part of the process of this (from a personal standpoint) is to get clear on how you want to feel every day - instead of focusing on the things you want. When we start making choices that help us feel more like we want to feel, we bring our lives into alignment with our goals.

There’s no better way to do this than by revisiting your Core Desired Feelings every day before you begin your tasks. These planners give you space to feel as well as do. If you are buying a gift for someone who still uses a paper planner, I highly recommend checking out the Desire Map Planners!

There are also meditations, books, and much more on her site. This is the #1 place to grab all the things for that uber-feeling spiritual powerhouse in your life!
