One of my personal values is debunking the taboo-ness of certain topics, including sex. And yet, many of my friends would tell you that I remain relatively conservative in my own world when it comes to sex. I still feel slightly off when I go into a sex toy store mostly because I’m there just for a vibrator and a lot of the other things make me quite uncomfortable. Don’t misunderstand, I am a firm believer in people being able to enjoy the type of {consensual} sex they want, it’s just not for me. I’ve also never understood why (many) vibrators are pink or purple or have the names of animals (rabbit, I’m looking at you). Condom names aren’t much better - choosing from Magnum or Trojan seems a little overwhelming to me. I guess - at least in this area of my life - I lean towards the more discreet side.

That’s why I was so stoked to discover maude this year. I read a profile of the founders and as they discussed how they were tired of the outdated approach to one of our most basic human experiences, I was intrigued.

After spending a few minutes on the maude website, it was clear that they are a values-based company. In fact, their three primary values are listed for all to see: inclusivity, quality and simplicity. Inclusivity - empowering all genders to take control of their sexual pleasure and health. Quality - products made in high quality factories dedicated to quality, materials and safety. Simplicity - no need to be loud; simple, effective, amazing. In fact, if you look at their open jobs page, one of their requirements for team members is the belief that simplicity creates change. What a beautiful sentiment that is!

And the simple design is probably what drew me in the most. This is the kind of vibrator that could be mistaken for an essential oil diffuser on your nightstand. And, even if it IS clear what it is - there was no embarrassment factor - it looks classy, tasteful and elegant. The “quickie” pack is perfect to have in your purse It matches the look of my make up bag and glasses case and I knew it would fit in just like any other accessory.

So let’s talk about those names for a minute. Genius. No more deciding if you want a trojan or a magnum or if “ribbed for her pleasure” means all the rest aren’t! Four products and four simple names that clearly explain what you are buying: Rise (condom), Shine(lube), Vibe (duh), and, of course, the Quickie - a small discreet pouch with two condoms and a tiny bottle of lube. I was sold!

It was time to try them out! I read all the reviews (I literally mean ALL) as I knew that loving the look of the brand and their social media didn’t mean the product was all that. And I am happy to report that the products do not disappoint. If maude had existed when Charlotte (on Sex and the City) bought her first vibrator, they might have never gotten her to leave the house!

I hope that you’ll give maude a try. If you use this link, you can save $5 on your first kit. Don’t worry - I won’t ask you what you thought. :)
